YYX Capital is a private investment firm, founded by a team of successful investment professionals, digital executives, and entrepreneurs. As well as capital, it brings industry-leading expertise across all pillars of growth to the companies it invests in. Its focus is on consumer-facing businesses, ideally aligned with its expertise in direct-to-consumer models. The founding partners at YYX are Julian Barnett (a successful hedge fund manager), James Cox (Simba mattresses founder), Sir Joh Hegarty (founder of BBH) and Charlotte Harper (Zoopla COO). They operate a little differently to most investors, with a hybrid of venture, P.E., operational expertise, branding & marketing. They do not charge management fees on invested capital. They focus heavily on D2C online brands. In particular they like babies, pets and beauty - all markets with v. high margin and emotive touchpoints. They don't invest in vices (alcohol, gambling, gaming) and they don't like physical retail with lots of stores. They often have a very heavy operational involvement in businesses they back, and typically take a large equity position ( 30% or more).
